🇲🇨🏐Adult Ladies Football Junior B Championship - Round 3

Trim 4-10 Kilbride 1-08

Trim Ladies made it 3 wins from 3, when beating Kilbride, to progress, as group winners, to a Junior B semi final in two weeks time.

On a miserable Sunday morning, playing conditions were horrendous. After a nervy opening 10 minutes, it was Trim who worked the first score when Sophia Maguire slotted over after a fine move by the home side. Meg Ni Scolai then swiftly pointed to double the home sides tally. The away side registered their first score soon after. The slippy and wet conditions were a struggle for both teams, but it was Trim who started to manage the game better. Sinead Murphy raised the first green flag of the day when she found the Top corner from distance. The home side pushed on and Katie Newman finished a flowing move to the net, and points from Niamh Mahon (2) and Sophia Maguire saw Trim take a grip of the Game. At the back, Dearbhla Brady, Adelle Carolan Flynn, Kate Dunne, Sarah Caulfield, Anna Bolger and Emma Hanifan were immense, constantly breaking down Kilbride attacks. In goal, Jodie Leavy was a constant source of attack from her accurate kick outs. Mahon then added a 3rd goal, before, what was the score of the game and Emma Hanifan fired to the net after a fantastic run from the back. Shona White and Katie Newman both added points before the interval, to leave the Half time score at Trim 4-07 Kilbride 0-02.

As the second half started the rain seemed to be getting heavier, making conditions more difficult for both teams. The away side started better and scored a goal from long range. Trim were put under more pressure but handled it well with some fine defending. In midfield, Aoife McDonnell and Sinead Murphy put in a great shift, chasing and breaking up attacks from the away side. At half forward, Aideen Downes, Sophia Maguire and Niamh Mahon worked tirelessly. It was Mahon who settled the home side, kicking two fine points from distance. Kilbride worked hard, and continued to reduce the deficit but were kept at arms length by Trim as the clock ticked down. Trim had some good goal chances, but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing meant Trim would have to settle for another solitary point from Murphy, to end the game as 4-10 to 1-08 winners.

It was a very entertaining game in horrendous conditions. Trim now move on to a Semi final on 25th September, while Kilbride advance to a quarter final next weekend.
