Trim vs Moynalvey
League 1B, 6th March ‘22
Trim travelled to Moynalvey for their first Senior League Game in over a decade on Sunday afternoon. On a sunny day, the team warmed up on the long grassed pitch, taking note of a breeze blowing from one end to the other. Trim would face this breeze for the first 30 minutes.
Referee Keith Sheerin threw the ball in and the two teams found their footing for a couple of minutes. Rob Burke had an early effort fall into Chris O’Malley’s chest. It was in the 4th minute when Mikey Cullen would open the scoring for Trim after a tasty touch off from Aaron Lynch.
David McLoughlin was quick to answer with a clinically taken free to level the sides, and this would prove a trend for the match to follow.
Aaron Lynch kicked 2 frees and missed one in the following 10 minutes to give Trim a 03-01 lead at the ¼ hour mark.
Donal Smith scored a fine point from 35meters followed by a McLoughlin point from play and another from a free to give the home side a one point lead by the 22nd minute.
At this point Connor Quigley showed two fine displays of skill, with a wonderful turn and a subsequent flick of the hand to feed the ball to Daire Lynch who leveled the sides once more.
In the following 8 minutes, McLouglin kicked 2 points from frees and missed one for Moynalvey.
The first half ended with a cynical foul on Aaron Lynch out wide, inside the 21-meter line. Referee Sheerin called play back to a foul on Alan Douglas and black carded Stephen Donoghue just before half time. Moynalvey lead 06-04 at half time.
The second half started well for Trim with points from James Murray and Aaron Lynch by the 35th minute; teams level.
Transfer Thomas Carmody was introduced for his debut appearance, replacing Mikey Cullen, alongside Ian Birmingham who replaced James Murray.
Daire Lynch worked the ball well to Alan Douglas who converted a 38th minute point, giving Trim a one point lead; 07-06.
Moynalvey equalized with a Donal Smith point from play, before Quigley put Trim ahead once more with a free from play in the 40th minute.
Sean Duggan scored his first for Moynalvey and McLoughlin added to his account: Moynalvey lead 09-08 with 15minutes remaining.
Aaron Lynch would round out the game with 3 well taken frees in the final 11 minutes leaving Trim with a 2 point margin.
