Trim senior hurling team beat Killyon with relative ease last evening in a Sun Kissed Kildalkey. It must be said that the host club had their grounds looking in superb condition and the pitch surface was a good as anything you would see anywhere in ireland. All credit to the Kildalkey club and to the people looking after the upkeep of the grounds and pitch.
From the very start Trim looked sharp especially Michael Cullen in the right corner. He won every ball That was hit into to him. Killyon got the first score of the game after just ten seconds. Trim replied with two points from Cullen and Brian Dowling. Killyon were playing well at this stage and hit two unanswered points in by the thirteenth Minute. Trim were getting the upper hand in the half forward line with James Andrews , Curran Joyce winning a lot of possession. The next score in the game was a brilliant score , Andrews won The ball from the puck out , passed to Michael Cullen Andrews continued his run and revived a return pass from Cullen and Andrews struck a beautiful point from the fifty yard line. Killyon got the next score of the match a pointed free. Then the Trim machine went into top gear in the final ten minutes of the half Trim rattled in three goals and four points to Killyon three pointed frees. The goals were great forward goals, inter passing between forwards and passing the ball to the player in the better position was key to these three goals. Brian Dowling got the first and he did what Beano does best he made sure he was at the end of the move a great goal. Dimmy Higgins got the second busting through from mid field to receive the final pass and boot the ball to the back of the net. The third came from Dowling and as I said before , Beano did what he does best , Score Goals. This time he received the ball thirteen meters from goal. He turned , side stepped two defenders and blasted the ball to the back of the net. The Trim Points in this dominant period of the match came from center back James Toher, wing back Sean McGee and the very impressive midfielder Mark Molloy. The midfielder was outstanding in his first championship match for the Reds and with Meath Hurling management in attendance I Am sure that this Wexford man will pull on the Green and Gold in this years Christy Ring Cup. Michael Cullen completes a great first half display with his second of the half.
Half Time Score : Trim 3-8 Killyon 0-9
The second half was a none event as the trim scoring blitz in the last ten minutes of the first half had broken Killyon. The would go on to score just two points in the second half with the Town side adding nine points. These scores came from Alan Douglas four , Michael Cullen two, Curran Joyce , Michael Cole and Higgins .
Trim played really well And it was a welcome return to form for the Trim supporters. After suffering a heavy deafest to Kiltale in the league three weeks ago the form of the team was questionable going into this match.
Trim had many stars on the night . Keeper Cha Ennis was doing his usual stuff , great puck outs and one outstanding save from a one on one situ with count star Aam Gannon. One very interesting stat from last nights match was that Trim had eleven different names on the score sheet. That does not happen to often .
