Trim Intermediates met Kilmessan in a highly entertaining contest at Kiltale, on Saturday afternoon, but were unfortunate to come out on the wrong side of a six point difference which did not reflect the closeness of the tie. On the brighter side, it was great to see Alan Douglas line out once again in the red and white and capped his comeback by contributing a brace of points and was an immense influence with the younger Trim players.
Another Trim player, Josh Harris, marked his own comeback with a personal tally of seven points, and it was he who opened the scoring in the third minute. The next four scores all fell to Kilmessan with their talisman Kevin Keena, who ended up with an overall tally of 1-9 (8f), contributing to three of those scores. However, in fairness to Trim, they did not drop their heads and had the following scores through Darragh McLoughlin and Josh Harris.
This trend continued for the remainder of the half and there were further Trim scores from Alan Douglas, Josh Harris (3), Calum Casserley, Daniel Fox, and Paddy Kennedy.
Another feature of this game was the no nonsense approach by referee John O’Brien who was intent on making his presence felt and moved forward at least three or four Kilmessan frees into unmissable positions. Hopefully, this was a harsh lesson learned by the Trim players for future reference.
Those two late scores from Paddy Kennedy and Josh Harris left the sides evenly balanced at the half time break.
Half Time: Trim 0-10; Kilmessan 0-10
A pair of ‘moved in’ frees from Kevin Keena edged Kilmessan in front on the resumption but these were quickly cancelled out by efforts from Josh Harris and an eighty-metre special from Alan Douglas.
By the twenty second minute Kilmessan held the slenderest of leads with the additional Trim scores coming via Josh Harris and Daniel Fox. Unfortunately, that was the closest Trim came in securing the tie and they were outscored by 1-3 to 0-1 in the closing six minutes with Trim’s final score coming from Eamonn Yeates.
Overall, Trim should have learned a lot from this encounter and hopefully look forward to the remainder of the Championship with a good degree of confidence.
