Trim shine in dreary St Loman’s Park

Top of the table Trim were looking to continue their winning streak when they welcomed Oldcastle to St Loman’s Park on a miserable Friday evening.

It was Tom Carmody that opened up the scoreboard for Trim but Oldcastle were to respond almost instantly with a score of their own.    Trim keeping the pressure on with McGinnely working immensely in the corner to close down the Oldcastle forwards.    Brilliant footwork from Sean Foley keeps the ball moving to Carmody adding to his tally.   A brilliant run from Harry Purcell gets Fitzy on the score sheet.   Keeping their composure on the wet night the strong defensive from the Trim full back line leads to consistent scoring to keep the visitors at the disadvantage on the scoreboard.    A brilliant use of the new solo and go rule, sets Sweeney on a run up the field and getting Carmody again on the score board.    Making good use of their wind advantage a brief Oldcastle resurgence could not deter Trim's dominance.   Super work from the mid field sends Conor Quigley running down the middle and landing the ball into David Lernihan who smashed home raising the green flag for the Trim lads.   A few moments of madness from the Oldcastle midfielder seen him sent to the dugout but Trim took little advantage of the extra man but still going in at half time with the lead.

Half Time Áth Troim 1:10  Oldcastle 0:08

With both teams coming out from the break and working hard to gain the upper hand, it was with a slight wind advantage that Trim were to add the first score of the second half.      A welcome return to Club duties for our County players seen James Murray, David Murtagh and James Toher join the play further bolstering the Trim momentum.      Foley back with his dancing footwork adds his name to the score sheet.   A brilliant quick play from Carty in mid field gets Lernihan who in a 1 on 1 dodges his marker and raises his second green flag.    Between the posts a brilliant block from Eoin stops a certain goal to keep the Trim momentum going.    Trim were taking complete of this half and Ian Birmingham, who had only just stepped on to the pitch puts himself on the score sheet as Trim settled into themselves using the wind to their full advantage.   Excellent work from Patrick Quigley and Gerry Dwane proved to strong for the Oldcastle forwards who were unable bring themselves back into the game not getting a sniff at the Trim goals.  Moment of the match Gerry Dwane putting his head on the line to close down a goal chance sums up the determination the lads put into tonight's game and a very deserved win from a hard-hitting resolute Oldcastle team.
