Drumree 2-11 Trim 1-7
Trim Intermediate camogie Team traveled to Drumree on Wednesday evening to open up the 2020 Camogie championship against home club Drumree. The town side started brightly and had two points from play on the score board after five minutes. Both points were from play and both from lively full forward Elaine Murtagh. Trim went three up with another point from play this time it was the younger Murtagh sister that got on the score board with a lovely point from a difficult angle. Things we’re looking good for The Reds , three up , ten minutes played and Drumree had not launched an attack in this first ten minutes of Trim domination. This game then took an unexpected turn as Drumree then took charge of the game scoring their first point in the eleventh minute from a placed ball. From here on it was just Drumree as the Trim girls struggled. Between the eleventh minute and the thirty first minute Drumree Out scored Trim by 1-6 to 0-1.
Half Time : Drumree 1-7 Trim 0-4
Scores were hard to come by in the first ten minutes of the second half , Drumree got the first score with a placed ball. Trim responded immediately with a lovely point from Juliann Murtagh. Ironically this was The Town side first score in thirty seven minutes. Both teams were finding conditions tough as the grass was a little bit to long for hurling. Drumree tagged on a couple of more points before disaster struck for Trim. A ball lobbed into the reds square, Grace Cullen went for the ball and was in the process of jab lifting the ball when the referee blew his whistle, everyone thought a free out to Trim but to the Reds amazement the referee had his arms out wide each side signaling for a penalty. A strange decision and even the Drumree players has a little giggle. Two Trim players were shown yellow cards for voicing their opinion. Drumree blasted the ball to the net. With just ten minutes to play Drumree were in control of this match. As with all Trim GAA teams the girls never gave up, the went in search of goals to get back into the game . Trim got just reward for there efforts when Rian Kearns scored a brilliant goal by pulling on a ground ball from twenty meters blasting the ball into the Drumree net .
Drumree were the better team on the night and deserved the win. Trim Manager James Andrews and head coach Brian Dowling will not be happy with the result but will be happy with there teams efforts on the night.
