Final Score: Trim 9-14; Duleek/Bellewstown 0-3
Trim had a facile victory over Duleek/Bellewstown in this one-sided encounter at St Loman's Park. The home side were relentless from start to finish not only due to their vast superiority against a much weaker opposition, but also because of the fierce competition among their squad for those precious starting places.
Mikey Cullen was immense for the home side due to his playmaking and many assists especially in the opening half and by his own tally of scores in the second.
As early as the first minute he supplied Dimi Higgins for the opening point and barely a minute later gave the final assist to his brother James, who actually started the movement, for the opening goal.
For the next while, the scores flowed from Owen Mc Grath (3), Dimi Higgins, and David Murtagh and when James Cullen netted for the second time, again from a Mikey Cullen delivery the match, as a contest, was as good as over.
To their credit, Duleek/Bellewstown never stopped trying and were rewarded with a brace of points which, in other circumstances, might have signalled a mini revival. However, such was not the case and following some brilliant inter play between Patrick Quigley, James Murray, and Mikey Cullen, it was Mikey Cole's turn to find the back of the visitors net.
Owen Mc Grath had the final say in that scintillating opening half when he found his range from a narrow angle, in a no nonsense manner.
Half Time: Trim 3-7; Duleek/Bellewstown 0-2
The second half saw no reprieve for the visitors and, after only twenty seconds, the ball, once again, nestled in the Duleek/Bellewstown net from an unstoppable drive from Mikey Cole. Two more points followed for the home side courtesy of Mikey Cullen, getting in on the action for the first time, and Sean Foley. A pointed free for Duleek/Bellewstown followed but this was to be their final score of the game even though they did have a number of wasted efforts later on that might have given the scoreboard a slightly less lob-sided appearance.
The scores kept coming for Trim who, by now, had the luxury to empty their bench. There were further points from Sean Foley, Mikey Cullen (2), Daryl Phelan, Patrick Quigley ('45) and goals from Mikey Cullen, Sean Foley, and Harry Kennedy.
Fittingly, the final score was a goal from James Cullen, with his brother Mikey supplying the final pass, following a fine solo run by Danny Coleman.
