Final Score Trim 3-17 Boardsmill 4-17

As the score would suggest this hurling league Div 4 clash played in a sun drenched Boardsmill last night was a top class exciting encounter with the home side lucky to hang on to the two points on offer. Boardsmill raced into a early lead with three early goals and lead by 3-3 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes. Trim got a free in front of the goals thirty five thirty meters out , up stepped Aaron McGee who blasted the ball to the heavily guarded net. Aaron short range frees move all over the place in the air and leave the opposition bewildered when the ball hit’s the back of the net. James Murry was on Fire from play and from place balls as the Town side Worked themselves back into the match With points from Stephen Doyle, Jimmy Canty and another rocket of a goal this time from play from Arnie McGe. The Reds were just four points down at half time.

Half Time : Boardsmill 3-9 Trim 2-8

Boardsmill started the better of the two teams in the second half and hit three unanswered points to Stretch the lead to seven points. Back came Trim again , James Murray hit three points on the trot , Stephen Doyle got one and Andy O’Brien chipped in with his first of the match. The Reds were now only two down , but then disaster struck for the town side, a mix up in defense lead to the ball ending up in the back of the net. The Mill added three more points to again go into a eight point lead with only eight minutes left on the clock. Trim were not finished , far from it , youngster Murray hit two sixty fives and a brilliant side Line cut from thirty richter meters out a truly amazing score. Aaron McGee got a point from play to leave just four between the sides. Boardsmill got back on the score board with two pointed frees to go back into a six point lead. With time running out Trim launched an attack that started with the excellent Evan De Coursey Tobin in the goals , he moved the ball quickly to full back Darragh Kennedy who hand passed the ball to Gary Fleming who then hit a diagonal pass to Jimmy Canty, Jimmy took on his man found Joey Toole with a great ball and Joey blasted the ball to the back of the net. Only three in it now , the ref indicated that there was two minutes of additional time to play. The Town side in the famous red and white jerseys launched into all out attack. They hit the post twice the uprightand the bar in search of the equalizer but unfortunately it just did not come. The large crowd that gathered were treated to one of the best game’s of the year at any level. This was Trim Gaa club third team and Boardsmill second team that included a number of their first team players just proved that bit to strong in the end. Nevertheless the men in Red can be proud of their efforts and the never say die attitude.
