🔴🏐Minors Stay in the Championship Hunt with Impressive Victory Over Ratoath 🔴🏐

Trim’s minor footballers kept their chances of advancing to the Division 2 championship semi-final very much alive with a comprehensive victory over hosts Ratoath last Tuesday evening.

Trim got off to the perfect start and found themselves 3 points ahead after just 5  minutes with points from play coming from Jesse O’Rourke (2) and Cormac Walsh before Charlie O’Connor forced the ball over the line in the 10th minute doubling the visitor’s advantage. Things got even better a minute later when a fine 2 pointer from Ruairi McCaffery left 8 points between the teams. Jesse O’Rourke added another point from a free before Ratoath rallied and opened their account with a point in the 14th minute.

The following 10 minutes were played almost exclusively in front of the Trim goal but initially Ratoath were finding it difficult to convert their dominance into scores kicking a number of wides in quick succession. They did manage to add two points in the 22nd minute before a well worked goal brought them right back into the game reducing the gap to just 3 points.

Trim badly needed another score to turn the tide and were gifted two points when Ratoath ill-discipline resulted in the ball being moved forward by the referee leading to two close range frees which were converted by Jesse O’Rourke. Cormac Walsh then caught the Ratoath netminder unawares with a superb finish from 20 yards when shooting for a point would have seemed the more likely option to leave 8 points between the sides at half-time.

Trim dominated possession in the opening stages of the second half but kicked a series of wides before Jesse O’Rourke got the scoreboard moving again with a point from play. Ratoath responded with a point of their own but by the time they had registered their next and final point of the game in the 23rd minute of the second half  Trim had added another goal and 3 points of their own to effectively end the game as a contest, the goal coming from Ruairi McCaffery and the 3 points from Cormac Walsh (2 frees). Points from Cormac Walsh (2), Jesse O’Rourke and Fionn Ennis in the closing minutes.
