Trim put in a determined team performance to overcome Drumree on a final score of 1-14 to 2-08 in a fiercely contested encounter.
Trim made the perfect start with Ellen Murray opening the scoring. Drumree responded with a goal to move two points ahead, but Trim showed great resilience. Ellen Murray got Trim back on the scoreboard before Amy Boyle added an excellent point. Murray continued her impressive scoring form, adding another point before Emma Hanafin won a great ball sending it to Amy to put it over the bar to keep it level.
The backs held Drumree out with sisters, Kayleigh and Leighann taking charge in the inside back line while Lauren and Grace took control of the center back line. There wasn’t a blade of grass that Ellen Birmingham didn’t cover as she fought hard to keep the ball feeding into the forwards.
Drumree refused to let the game slip away and struck for another goal to stay within touching distance. After a physical and hard-fought first half, Trim went into the break holding a slender two-point lead.
Both teams came out battling after the restart, with every ball fiercely contested Emma McLoughlin was not letting the Drumree backs out easy. Amy Boyle gave Trim a huge boost when she found the back of the net, extending their advantage at a crucial stage of the game. Drumree continued to battle right to the final whistle, but Trim matched their intensity with a determined defensive display and some well-worked scores.
When the final whistle sounded, Trim had secured a deserved 1-14 to 2-08 victory. It was a superb all-round team performance, with Haley, Chloe and Cliona making an impact when they came on the pitch with every player contributing to a hard-earned win.
