It was an early morning start in Dunderry for this Round 5 fixture beteen home side Dunderry and near neighbours Trim. The early start, while avoiding the real heat of the day, was, nevertheless, played in warm and sunny conditions on a lovely pich which had recently been resurfaced to the credit of the host side.
Overall, the game was played in a sporting fashion with a draw probably being a fair result although the converted free count favoured Dunderry with a tally of thirteen, all down to Evan Nolan, against James Murray’s seven. Unfortunately, in terms of wide balls that dubious honour fell to Trim on a count of fourteen to Dunderry’s eight.
Trim’s early scores came from the lively Ruairi McCaffrey, who opened the scoring in the first minute, with James Murray accountable for the next three scores. In the meantime, Evan Nolan had four converted frees for the home side to leave the sides on equal terms after eighteen minutes. Another Ruairi Mc Caffrey effort edged Trim in front once more and this was cancelled out by a further Evan Nolan conversion.
Trim’s purple patch arrived between the twenty fifth and twenty-eight minutes with three unanswered points compliments of Ian Birmingham, Jesse O’Rourke, and the trusty stick of James Murray. The home side replied with two of their own from Adam Kelly and a further conversion from Evan Nolan.
Half Time: Dunderry 0-7; Trim 0-8
The monotonous tally of Dunderry frees continued on the resumption with three conversions from Evan Nolan in the second, third, and fourth minute. A lovely pass from Daniel Murray to his brother James ended with the latter firing to the Dunderry net past a helpless Jack Fagan and it was James Murray, again, who converted the next three Trim scores all from dead ball situations.
The free awards hadn’t dried up at all with a further three awarded to the home side and duly converted by the ever reliable Evan Nolan. Jack Darcy also raised a home green flag to give his side a two point cushion by the eighteenth minute.
Trim responded with a Kyle Ennis effort and their scoring was completed by further points from James Murray, two converted frees, and Alan Douglas. A Cathal Barron point from play kept Dunderry in touch with the inevitable final converted free, and equalizer, from Evan Nolan.
