Senior Debut L-R Charlie O'Connor, Leon Harris & Jesse O'Rourke

Trim put a number of recent marginal defeats behind them with a comprehensive display, following an early Sunday throw in, at an icy and windy Baconstown.

Senior League debutant Jesse O’Rourke was first on the mark with a well taken score after five minutes of play. This gave the momentum to Trim, who were playing with a significant wind advantage, and they followed with four more unanswered points including a brace of frees from James Murray and further conversions from Ruairi McCaffrey and Daniel Fox.

The home side were struggling badly against both the conditions and a dominant Trim side who could afford the added luxury of eleven wides in the opening half.   It wasn’t until the twenty second minute that midfielder Sean Coffey registered their first score followed closely by a second from their other midfielder Sean Martin.

In between, Trim had a further seven unanswered points following a trademark side line conversion by James Murray and further points from James Murray (2), Conor Quigley, Mark Molloy, and Alan Douglas. A speculative long range effort from James Andrews, in the twenty fourth minute, deceived everyone including Na Fianna ‘keeper Jonathan McCloskey, and the ball nestled softly in the back of his net.   Shortly afterwards the Na Fianna ‘keeper made amends when getting down smartly to his left to divert a James Murray penalty out for a sixty five.

James Murray did have the final say, before referee Derek Argue sounded the half time whistle, with a well taken free.

Half Time: Na Fianna 0-3; Trim 1-12

James Andrews extended Trim’s advantage with the first score of the second half but this was followed by, perhaps, Na Fianna’s best spell and they had four unanswered conversions between the seventh and tenth minute.  A Ruairi McCaffrey effort steadied the ship for Trim even though the home side responded with a further brace in the fourteenth and fifteenth minutes.

Although they had a total of eleven wides in the second period, to match Trim’s tally in the first, that previous score was to prove to be their last and Trim comfortably saw out the rest of the game with further scores from James Murray (3, 2f)) and Alan Douglas.

Congratulations to Senior League debutants Jesse O’Rourke, Leon Harris, and Charlie O’Connor.
