Trim got their first brace of points in the Division 1 League when they comprehensively defeated a weakened Na Fianna outfit in their home pitch at Baconstown on Saturday evening. The game was played in gale force conditions on a surface that was absolutely drenched by a shower of rain of biblical proportions just prior to kick off.

Playing into the gale force wind in the first half Trim opted for as much possession football as possible although even this was difficult because of the underfoot conditions which made it difficult to run with the ball or hold on to it when tackled. Nevertheless, Trim started well and “owned” the ball for the opening five minutes.

However, it was Na Fianna that opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a fine point from veteran Jamie Queeney.  Trim retaliated immediately with a fine opening score- a goal after a fast five man move from midfield.  Na Fianna responded with another point almost immediately but Trim controlled matters for the remainder of the half adding points in the 10th, 13th and 22nd minutes  from Tom Carmody (2) and Eoin O’Connor while Na Fianna added two in the 25th and 30th minutes.

While the football was not pretty to watch a very disciplined display from Trim saw them control almost every facet of the game. Defensively Brian Bolger, Jack McGowan, Ruairi McGowan and Conor McGinley were rock solid and David Lernihan and man of the match Conor Quigley lorded it at midfield.   Sean Fitzgerald and Daire Lynch did trojan work assisting the defence in that first half and Tom Carmody, Ian Byrne, Eoin O’Connor and Ian Birmingham made the most of the possession they got.

Half Time  Na Fianna  0-4     Trim 1-3.

It took Na Fianna 17 minutes to register their first score in the second half against the gale force wind. By that time the game was virtually over as a contest as Trim had stretched their two point lead by another 2-4. Tom Carmody, Conor Quigley, Ian Byrne and Sean Foley (0-1 each) and goals from Davy Murtagh, a minute after he came on as a sub and Eoin O’Connor. Na Fianna converted a penalty in the 21st minute and added a further point before full time while Trim added a further 1-3 with points from Daire Lynch, Ian Byrne and Tom Carmody. The goal was a well taken one by substitute Daniel Murray who is making a habit of registering majors when he plays.
