Minor Football League - League Division 2 - Round 2

Full Time Áth Troim 2-18 Killary Emmets 0-09  

Trim minor footballers took on Killary Emmets in Syddan on Saturday morning in the second round of the Division 2 minor football league. Trim opened brightly with 3 points from play from Jesse O’Rourke inside the first 10 minutes. Killary Emmets opened their scoring with a close range free when Trim breached the 3 man rule. Trim then moved into a four point lead with points from Charlie Meehan and Charlie O’Connor.   Despite having the better of the opening exchanges found themselves behind after 25 minutes of the first half.   Emmets scored their second point of the game in the 19th minute and added two two-point frees in quick succession. However points from Ronan O’Hara and Adam Genockey gave the visitors a 0-07 to 0-06 half-time lead.

The hosts drew level almost immediately after the restart but a Ruairi McCaffery free, a point from play from Tadgh Foley and a fine goal from Ronan O’Hara put some daylight between the teams. An Emmets point reduced the gap to 4 points but when pressure by the Trim forwards saw them turn their opponents over in their own goal mouth James Murray was on hand to finish to the net from close range. Trim managed to exert huge pressure on their opponents kickouts and Cillian Diamond won several high balls in midfield which Trim used as a platform to dominate the remainder of the game. Points from Jesse O’Rourke, Leon Harris, Ruairi McCafferty (one free and one from play) and an impressive 5 points including 1 two-point score from Tadgh Foley saw the Trim men secure a 2-18 to 0-09 victory.
