Trim made a disappointing exit from the Feis Cup on Monday night (9/3/26) when they lost to a lively and fit looking Skryne team who showed they were up for this match with a point from the throw in. Shortly after this they rocked Trim with a goal after some loose play in the Trim goalmouth.

Things looked ominous for Trim as they struggled to come to grips with a fast moving Skryne outfit who mounted attack after attack but failed to score before Trim notched a great goal from Josh Harris in the sixth minute. That was as good as it got for Trim in the first half as Skryne added a further 11 points before the interval to their 3 points in the last few minutes of the half.

Half time:  Trim 1-3  Skryne 1-12

There was a moment of hope of a comeback at the start of the second half when Tom Carmody scored a two-pointer free in the first minute. A fifth minute point for Skryne preceded a long period of Trim pressure which yielded no scores as several chances went abegging, wrong decisions were taken and a number of wides were chalked up.

It was Skryne that broke the deadlock in the 16th minute but Trim quickly replied with a great Eoin O’Connor point. Skryne stretched their lead a minute later, but Trim dominated the next ten minutes. This pressure yielded only two points from one each from Eoin Sweeney (free) and Conor Quigley again because of some wayward shooting before the score of the match came from the young Cathal O’Reilly in the 29th minute with a brilliant two pointer after some great work by him at midfield.

Skryne closed off the scoring in the last minute with another point.

Trim got a taste of what they face in the championship from this Skryne outfit. Their first half display left Trim floundering as they moved the ball quickly from defence to attack and Trim failed to make strong contacts or secure the turn overs which has been a feature of their previous matches. Trim could also learn from the Skryne tactic of avoiding taking the ball into contact as they were “swallowed” by the Skryne defenders on many occasions. Trim can point to the fact they were missing some of their key players and to the fact that although they were dominant in the second half they failed to translate that dominance into scores on too many occasions.

A positive feature of the match for Trim was the continuing good form displayed by younger players like Cathal O’Reilly, Eoin O’Reilly, Eoin Ryan, Ruairí McCaffrey and Conor McGinley when he came on.

First round of the League in Trim on Thursday night see Trim hosting neighbours Moynalvey in what is always a tight contest
