Brendan Davis Hurling Rd 2

Full Time: Trim 2-15; Ratoath 1-11

Trim’s second game of the week took place on Friday evening, once again, in St Loman’s Park.

This time the opposition was dual County champions Ratoath affording no better incentive for Trim to improve on their opening round defeat.

On a dry evening, and with a much improved playing surface , this was a much more entertaining affair for the good attendance. Once again, the teamsheet of both sides had a somewhat unfamiliar look but Ratoath did have players of the calibre of Cian Rogers, Domhnall Rogers, and Tomas Corbett in their starting lineup.

And it was the aforementioned Tomas Corbett who opened Ratoath’s scoring in the second minute, followed by a Rob Hayes conversion, before Trim’s opening score came from chief talisman James Murray. An unfortunate handling error from Trim’s net minder Eoin O’Reilly resulted in the first goal for the visitors in the ninth minute but this was quickly cancelled out by the energetic Tadhg Foley, who was causing the Ratoath defence all kinds of trouble, raising a home green flag in the tenth minute.

Trim centre back Eoghan Ryan added another point, his final tally being an impressive 0-4, and there were further scores from James Murray (0-2, 2f), Tadhg Foley, and Eoghan Ryan (0-2) before Trim were awarded a penalty, on the stroke of half time, which James Murray duly dispatched to the back of the Ratoath net.

Half Time: Trim 2-8; Ratoath 1-8

Ratoath’s Domhnall Rogers had the opening score, on the resumption, in the first minute but a fine solo effort from Tadhg Foley and a Daniel Murray converted free kept up the home side’s momentum.

The next two scores came the way of the visitors but the latter of these, in the seventeenth minute proved to be their final conversion. Trim added another five to their tally, James Murray (0-4, 2f, 1 ’65), Eoghan Ryan (0-1), before referee Bernard Heaney sounded the final whistle deep into injury time, to run out fairly comfortable winners in the end.

Trim: Eoin O’Reilly, Colm McGrath, Darragh McLoughlin, Danny Coleman, Caelum Casserley, Eoghan Ryan (0-4), Mark Murray, Ruairi McCaffrey, James Murray (1-8, 1-0 pen, 6f, 1 ’65), Cathal O’Reilly, Daniel Murray (0-1), Conor McKeown, Josh Ayton, Jessie O’Rourke, Tadhg Foley (1-2)

Subs (used): Conor Quigley, Oisin Hackett
