Full Time: Trim 0-13; Na Fianna 2-12

Trim’s 2026 Senior Hurling season finally got underway with two matches, in four days, under lights at St Loman’s Park.

The first game against Na Fianna was played on Tuesday evening having been postponed on a couple of occasions, due to weather conditions, and having been originally scheduled to take place in Baconstown,

In typical start of season fare, there was a somewhat unfamiliar look to the Trim lineup with many players unavailable for a number of reasons, including niggling injuries and County duties.

On a dry, but cool, evening the opening half had little to report with frantic play and signs of rustiness from both sides and very few scoring opportunities. James Murray did have Trim’s opening score from a free in the eight minute and later had a similar score, this time from an enormous distance, for an opening tally of four. Other Trim scorers were George Douglas and Conor McKeown.

Half Time: Trim 0-6; Na Fianna 1-3

The visitors resumed with an early score to edge in front but points from Josh Ayton and James Murray (f) swung things in Trim’s favour. While it was nip and tuck thereafter, Na Fianna had restored their slender advantage by the thirteenth minute and Cian Slattery then raised a second green flag for Na Fianna to leave some daylight between the sides.

Trim’s other scores came from James Murray (5, 4f), and Ruairi McCaffrey, while the visitors added another five points to claim the spoils.

Congratulations to Ruairi McCaffrey, Tadhg Foley, and Jesse O’Rourke on their Senior debuts.

Best wishes to Senior Management and selectors Declan Murray, C J Murtagh, and Benny Murray for the coming season.
