DG Stoves & Fireplaces Minor Hurling Championship Division 1 - Group A Round 2
FT Trim 1-09 : Navan O’Mahony’s 2-14.
Trim’s minor hurlers took on Navan O’Mahony’s at St. Loman’s Park in the second round of the Division 1 minor hurling championship last Monday evening. The match was played in difficult conditions with a very strong wind blowing almost directly across the pitch. It took a while before the teams adapted to the conditions and there were a number of wides and efforts dropped short in the opening minutes before Alex Cole opened the home sides account with a 10th minute free. O’Mahony’s responded with a point from a free a minute later and two points from play soon after. Two Alex Cole frees had the sides level after 20 minutes. Within a minute O’Mahony’s scored the opening goal of the game when a low powerful shot took a wicked bounce on the edge of the small square before ending up in the Trim net. The goal seemed to give the visitors a real lift and two quick points from play and a second goal put 8 points between the teams. Two further Navan points in the closing minutes of the half left the half time score
HT Trim 0-03 : Navan O’Mahony’s 2-07
Both sides exchanged points in the first couple of minutes of the second half, Trim’s point coming from Cormac Walsh, before Trim got the break they needed to get back into the match. Leon Harris struck a free goalwards from the centre of the pitch and the ball some how managed to find it’s way to the Navan net. This seemed to unsettle the visitors and Trim were unlucky not to score a second goal a minute later when firing narrowly wide from a tight angle. Trim then enjoyed their best spell of the game and added 4 further points in an 8 minute spell (Alex Cole – 2 points and a point each from Cormac Harris and a long range effort from Leon Harris) leaving just 4 points between the teams heading in to the final 5 minutes. A Tadgh Foley point from play cancelled out an O’Mahony’s free but unfortunately this was Trim’s final score of the match. O’Mahony’s finished the game strongly with 4 unanswered points to leave the final score Trim 1-09, Navan O’Mahony’s 2-14.
Trim’s final group game will take place in Kiltale against Kiltale on Monday week (September 8th) where a Trim win would secure them a semi-final spot.
Panel: Seanie Henry, Adam Genockey, James Murray, Leon Harris, Fionn Ennis, Ryan Collins, Liam O’Donnell, Ruairi McCaffery, Oisin Hughes, Ronan O’Hara, Lee Kearney, Gareth Reilly, Alex Cole, Cormac Walsh, Tadgh Foley, John McMoreland, Cillian Diamond, Conor O’Reilly, Rohan Rooney, Emil Maher, Sean O’Sullivan, Cian Buckley, Dylan Creevey
