Trim are just one game away from an automatic Semi Final berth which they can secure with either a draw or an outright win against Kilmessan on Sunday, 7th September (throw in 4pm, Pairc Tailteann). Apart from a brief spell at the beginning of the second half, this was a one sided affair which is fairly reflected by the final scoreline. To their credit, this was a very good Trim team performance throughout and, while the full forward line accounted for 3-15 of the overall total, the backs confined the opposition attack to a mere 1-2 from play, and nine players contributed to the scoresheet.

Trim began in style and had raced to a 2-3 to no score lead by the eight minute. Darragh Heffernan was first to find the Killyon net with a clever tap in and Mikey Cole added another in the seventh minute. In between, there were points from Mikey Cole, James Andrews, and James Murray.

Dylan Farrell and Cathal McKeon were first to put Killyon on the scoresheet but further Trim points came via James Murray, Davy Murtagh, and a James Murray side-line special. The remainder of the half was all square with three points apiece. The Trim scores coming through James Murray, George Douglas, and a second James Murray side-line special.

Half Time: Trim 2-9; Killyon 0-5

A determined Killyon side exploded into life on the resumption and Justin Coyne fired past Eoin O’Reilly, the Trim net minder, within thirty seconds. Kyle Ennis had an immediate response, with a well taken point and this was followed by another Killyon score when Dylan Farrell pointed from a ’65. With a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-6, Killyon may have had ideas of bridging a reasonably attainable gap but Trim had other ideas and produced an unanswered tally of a goal and eight points, in a blistering twelve minute spell. There were points from Kyle Ennis (3), James Murray, Joey Cole, Mikey Cole, and George Douglas and topped off with another Trim goal courtesy of Kyle Ennis.

Killyon could only manage a further three points before the end, all coming from placed efforts by their top scorer Dylan Farrell. By contrast, Trim produced another goal, Kyle Ennis’s second, and six points via Conor Quigley (2), Daragh Heffernan, Mikey Cole (2), and Joey Cole.

All roads now point to that vital clash with Kilmessan on September 7th.
