As the lads togged out in Athboy on Sunday morning they knew they had a tough battle ahead of them as a strong Rathmolyon team stood in front of them. The title hunters were first to open the score board but Trim keeping them quiet compared to what some would expect of this game, not this team though. They knew they had the strength to put it up to Rathmolyon. A very defensive start sees Trim’s first proper break at a score, Cathal O’Reilly to take the first to convert as a brilliantly struck free from Cormac Doyle sends Cathal in around his marker. With their tails up next called on was Andrew O’Brien, an outstanding save from him minding the nets sees an almost certain goal sent over for a point keeping the Trim momentum high.
Colm McGrath ever present in full back giving Andy a helping hand sees the denial of 2 certain goals as Trim keep pushing to change the scoreboard again. With Adam Donoghue and Josh Ayton playing phenomenal hurling in mid field as Trim spirits never died, an ever positive Paddy Kennedy both on the pitch and from the sideline has a part to play in this new found attitude among the squad. Although marginally behind at the half time whistle Trim were confident in what could come of the second half
As the teams rejoined the pitch Trim dug straight in from the restart, winning ball high and low, special mentions are due to Josh Harris and Cathal O Reilly who made this game their own winning battles well out of usual positioning and giving constant support all over the pitch, this being a huge positive to the team with more scoring chances become available as Daniel Fox claims the full forward line and the dead balls as his own rallying up his personal tally for the day and getting his name on the end of brilliant team scores.
A hard fought game eventually sees the final whistle blown as Trim take the heavy defeat but leave the pitch with their heads held high. A great show put on for any spectators and not giving up until the final whistle certainly giving a little rattle to the Rathmolyon squad.
