LMFM Minor Football League Division 6 Premier SHIELD Final
FT Trim 3-10 St Peters Dunboyne 1-10
Match Report Donal O’Reilly
On Thursday evening Trim minor footballers took on St. Peters Dunboyne in the Division 6 Premier Shield final in Dunboyne. Trim enjoyed plenty of possession in the opening minutes and took the lead with a Conor O’Reilly point from play after 3 minutes. While continuing to more than hold their own in terms of passion the Trim men found scores hard to come by for the following 20 minutes. Dunboyne opened their account with a fortunate goal after 10 minutes and took advantage of Trim’s poor scoring form by scoring 5 unanswered points to give the home side a commanding 7 point lead. Trim were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty after 23 minutes and Sam Nolan made no mistake from 14 yards reducing the deficit to 4 points. Patrick O’Donnell kicked what was probably the score of the game when he pointed from a narrow angle close to the right hand sideline which was shortly followed by an Ethan O’Hara point.
HT Trim 1-03, Dunboyne 1-05
Trim played with the aid of the breeze in the second half but it was the home side who made the better start with the first two scores of the period to extend their lead back out to 4 points. A Dylan Creevey free and a Ronan O’Hara point from play reduced the gap to two points before Trim re-took the lead after 15 minutes of the second half. Jamie Tomney raced on to a through ball and managed to round the Dunboyne keeper and while it looked like the Trim attacker had been forced too wide he managed to find the net from the tightest of angles. Ronan Murray who had been introduced at the start of the second half had been giving the Dunboyne defence plenty to think about scored a second goal just a couple of minutes later to put Trim in to pole position with just 10 minutes remaining. A Conor O’Reilly point extended the lead to 6 points. Dunboyne scored the next point and a sustained period of Dunboyne pressure ended with them being awarded a penalty. The resultant penalty was well struck but superbly saved by Evan Rattigan in the Trim goal. The following period saw Dunboyne throw everything forward in search of a goal but were thwarted on a number of occasions by some dogged Trim defending and in particular a fine block from Cian Buckley when a Dunboyne goal looked inevitable. Dunboyne throwing men into attacked left plenty of space for Trim to break in to when they managed to win possession and they managed to add points from Jamie Tomney, Dylan Creevey and Fionn Ennis. Dunboyne did manage to score the following 2 points but the final score of the game went to Trim when Ryan Collins confidently pointed.
