📝Donal O'Reilly

Last Thursday evening Trim minor hurlers progressed to the Division 1 League Final with a well deserved win over rivals Ratoath. A lively Ratoath team started brightly and opened the scoring with a fine long range point from play. Trim responded superbly with a Goal and 4 points from Alex Cole (2 frees), 2 points from Cormac Walsh and another from Tadgh Foley in a period in which Ratoath only managed 2 points of their own to leave Trim with a 7 point lead after 20 minutes. Ratoath enjoyed a purple patch of their own in the following period where they scored a Goal and 3 points leaving the gap at just one point as half-time approached. Ratoath’s momentum was halted when Alex Cole finished a fine Trim move with his second Goal of the match before the half time whistle.

HT Áth Troim 2-07, Ratoath 1-06.

An early free from Alex Cole got Trim up and running in the second half. This was soon followed by a Tadgh Foley Goal.    The Trim man, who was having a fierce battle with the Ratoath full-back, managed to evade his marker and finish confidently to the back of the visitors net.     With Oisin Hughes and Ruari McCaffrey controlling the midfield and a strong half forward line of Lee Carney, Conor Reilly and Ronan O Hara this helped the winners maintain their dominance.   Ratoath scored the next point but Trim ended the game as a contest in the middle third of the half scoring 6 points without reply (3 points from Alex Cole and a point each from Cormac Walsh, Oisin Hughes and Tadgh Foley) before Alex Cole completed his hat-trick of Goals. This completed the scoring for the home side while Ratoath finished strongly with a goal and 4 points.  Excellent displays from Conor Heffernan, Adam Genockey and James Murray providing a solid defence throughout the match making it difficult for Ratoath to close the gap.
