LMFM Minor Football League Div 6 Premier SHIELD Semi Final

FT St Colmcilles 0-07  Áth Troim 1-09 

Trim minor footballers took on St Colmcilles in the  Divison 6 Premier shield semi final last Monday night in Piltown. Trim played up the hill and into a stiff breeze in the first half and saw plenty of the ball early on but had difficulty converting possession into scores. St Colmcilles took at early 3 point lead and it took until the 15th minute from the visitors to open their account with a fine point from play from Ronan Murray. Points soon followed from Ronan O’Hara and a Ronan Murray free leaving the game tied at 3 points a piece after 20 minutes. Another Ronan Murray point cancelled out a St Colmcille’s score to leave the teams level at half-time

The start of the second half was a cagey affair with St. Colmcilles dominating possession but finding it difficult to pierce a well organised Trim defence with Rohan Rooney, Cian Buckley and Dylan McGuiness in particular putting in huge shifts to deny the home side time and space. Trim took the lead twice through points from Adam O’Donnell and a Conor O’Reilly free but both times Cilles responded with points of their own. Both sides were finding scores hard to come by and things looked bleak for the Trim men when Colmcilles took the lead, 0-07 to 0-06 with 5 minutes remaining. However the final 5 minutes of the match belonged to Trim. Ronan Murray kicked the equalising score before Ronan O’Hara broke a couple of tackles before finding the back to the Colmcille’s net. A Conor O’Reilly free and a fine point from play from midfielder Paddy O’Donnell gave Trim a 5 point cushion heading into 3 minutes of injury time. Colmcilles went in search of the goal they required to get them back into the game but could find no way past Adam Kohistani in the Trim goal who produced a couple of outstanding saves.
