JLD Access Limited Hurling League Div 2 Rd 7
FT Áth Troim 3-13 Blackhall Gaels 8-19
Sunday morning seen Blackhall travel to Trim in what would prove to be a match in wet and windy conditions in a contrast to the Mediterranean conditions for the Div 1 game the previous day.
Blackhall opening the scoring, with the wind giving them a significant advantage in the first half.
Blackhall stormed out of the gate, racking up three unanswered scores. Trim struggled to find their footing, battling against both their opponents and the strong breeze. Kyle Ennis managed to break the deadlock for Trim with a well-taken free, but the team continued to face difficulties clearing the ball from their defensive end. Blackhall's pressure was relentless, constantly forcing errors and creating scoring opportunities.
Gooch added his name to the scoresheet as Trim desperately tried to reduce the gap. Daniel Murray showcased impressive strength and skill to contribute to Trim's limited first-half score. However, Blackhall capitalised fully on the wind advantage, maintaining control for the majority of the half.
With the breeze now at their backs, Trim hoped for a second-half comeback.
Ennis kickstarted the second-half scoring adding a much needed first goal to the Trim tally. Daniel Murray followed up with another point from a difficult angle and Daniel Fox powered through the BHG defence adding another goal to Trim’s resurgence. The lads continued to add to the scoreboard with some nicely taken points but Blackhall continuing to keep the gap out of Trim’s reach. With the clock ticking Kyle Ennis stepped up to take a free, keeping it low and hard and hitting the back of the BHG net.
Despite a much-improved team performance, the first-half deficit proved too large to overcome. Blackhall's strategic use of the wind in the first half paved the way for their victory against Trim. While Trim showed resilience in the second half, their slow start ultimately cost them the game but an exciting and fast paced match
This game marked the end of the Div 2 team’s league campaign with them coming up against some strong opposition against a group largely filled with 1st teams the lads played great hurling and great teamwork and plenty of good groundwork preparation for the upcoming Championship.
