Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Div 6 Rd 7 - FT Clonard 3-17 Áth Troim 7-15

Welcome back to Eoin O'Connor, Eoghan Ryan and Eoin McGrath all registering on the score board
"Goals Galore: Sealing the Final Score"

Trim travelled to Clonard and it was Clonard, on home turf, taking on the first score of the game trying to set the paces for the game ahead. A welcome back for Eoin O’ Connor to the Trim team sees him burying his first score to raise the first green flag of the match. Another returnee putting his mark on the match was Eoghan Ryan getting himself back into the team, returning from unfortunate injuries, to raise the second green flag.

Mark Murray, in his Captains’ role, playing strongly in mid field takes advantage of a brilliant turnover to raise the first and only orange flag of the day with a super kick from outside the Arc.

Clonard weren’t sitting back though and came back with a goal of their own. But the Trim lads have a quick reply with a goal and Trims 3rd goal coming from Gary Fleming. A game full of excitement with non-stop action on both ends, with each team punishing straight into the back of the net.

A brilliant team effort and lapse in concentration from the home squad sees Daniel Fox left inside unmarked to finish, starting his scoring off for the day.

Doyler lining out in goals for the Trim men sees a change of scenery for him away from coaching from the hurling sidelines with his strong kickouts sending the Trim mid field attacking constantly, in particular leaving George Douglas up with an open ball in toward the Clonard goals, but with a small mis mash ends up dropping the ball but using some top class soccer skills buried the ball to the top corner from the ground just outside the 14 yard line giving Trim the lead at the half time mark and making it a total of 8 goals on the score board as the whistle blew.

Half Time Áth Troim 5-07 Clonard 3 -10

Clonard now with the wind on their backs know they have a job to do on home soil open up the scoring with a point from the throw in and trying to close the gap with 2 scores in quick succession. Trim are quick to reply keeping the small lead between the teams.

Eoin O’Connor doing what he does best and keeping the score board moving in Trims favour as Clonard pile on the pressure. Trim mid field and defence putting in the work to stop the promising attacks. After a controversial call from the ref with our man left down in the square the play continued and the breaking ball lands to Adam Donoghue with a strong defensive block, play ends with Foxy to stick home to raise another green flag, the first of the second half. With both teams continuing to trade scores it’s Clonard who are kicking their points and slowly closing the gap between the two but with Trim punishing into the nets there was no denying the hungrier team on the day.

As Rian Collins comes in to replace his older brother Evan he’s straight into the attacking play taking full advantage of his fresh legs against a 13 man Clonard team (both teams playing 13 a side) finds himself joining the goal glory and puts his name straight on the score sheet with another green flag.

A day for the welcoming back to the ever-changing Trim squads sees Eoin McGrath enter the field of play and showing the young lads he never lost it kicking a lovely point to keep the difference between the teams. Coming out comfortably in the end with the old saying goals win games being more fitting than ever, it does not summarise the evenly matched game that was played. Trims fresh legs and team work with every player able to add to score board from Gary Fleming and Eoghan Ryan in the backs up to Daniel Fox in full forward it was a brilliant display of team work that won this game for the lads in the red and white.
