Trim minor footballers visited Summerhill on Monday night to play their fourth game in Group B of the Minor Football tournament.

They played with the aid of a stiff breeze in the first half but it was the home side who got off to a flying start scoring a goal after just 2 minutes. Trim had to endure a period of pressure when they had difficulty in winning possession from their own kickout. Summerhill added a point from a 14 yard free after a Summerhill player was impeded after claiming a mark. Ethan O’Hara opened the Trim account with a  point from play after 7 minutes. Summerhill added two points from play and another from another short range free. In the 13th minute Summerhill scored their second goal after a deflected shot found the net to give the home side a 2-03 to 0-01 lead after 13 minutes.

Trim began to pick up more possession from their own and opposition kickouts and scored three unanswered points, all from the boot of Cormac Walsh between the 16th and 20th minutes, Summerhill added a fourth point before Trim stuck for a goal of their own. An attempted point dropped just under the crossbar and the Summerhill goalkeeper could only palm the ball out into the path of Emil Maher who calmly finished to the back of the net. Summerhill scored the final point off the opening period to leave the half-time score Summerhill 2-05, Trim 1-04.

Summerhill started the second half brightly and scored two fine long range points. Trim then enjoyed their best period of the match where they scored 5 unanswered points in a 15 minute spell, one from Ronan O’Hara and two each from Cormac Walsh and Ethan O’Hara. Indeed they were unlucky not to add a goal with both Oisin Hughes and Cormac Walsh coming close. However it was the home side who finished the stronger with 3 unanswered scores, one a fine two point effort leaving the final score Trim 1-09, Summerhill 2-11.
