The Sunday morning fixture was always set to be a challenging encounter for our 2nd team. With seven eligible players away on County duties and thirteen of the panel of sixteen having already played for the Senior team in Thursday evening's game, the odds were stacked against us.
Playing against a strong wind in the first half, Trim found themselves under pressure from Kildalkey's rapid and well-executed scoring. By the 20th minute, Kildalkey had established a commanding lead before Trim finally registered their first score thanks to a free by Daniel Fox. Daniel managed to add another point from a free before the halftime whistle was blown, leaving the team with much to accomplish in the second half.
As play resumed, even the weather seemed to work against us, the wind had completely died down. Although the damage from the first half was daunting every player stepped up, competing fiercely for every ball and every score.
Despite the tough opening round, the team's performance in the second half was encouraging. The players can build on this in future training sessions and matches.
While we will continue to be without our County players, the league serves as an excellent platform for our younger players to gain valuable experience and develop their skills.
Going forward, with continued effort, we can look forward to improved performances in upcoming fixtures.
Panel Andy O’Brien, Darragh Kennedy, Darragh McLoughlin, Adam Donoghue, Colm McGrath, Alex Fox, Cian Lee, Josh Ayton, Conor McKeown, James Andrews, Cathal O’Reilly, Darragh Smyth, Daniel Fox, Eamonn Yeates, Luca Tahaney, Dylan Buckley
