Trim took on Navan O’Mahony’s on Saturday afternoon looking to get their first win of the season after their opening day defeat to Dunboyne a fortnight ago.
O’Mahony’s started brightly with a point from play after just 30 seconds. However the home side were then rocked by two quickfire goals from Jamie Tomney whose pace and direct running caused the Navan defence problems all afternoon. The Navan men replied with a point from play and another from a free before points from Dara McHugh, Ronan O’Hara, Tadgh Clavin and two Dylan Creevey frees gave Trim an eight point lead after 20 minutes of play. The home side added two more points before half time but Jamie Tomney scored the final point of the half to give Trim a 2-6 to 0-05 lead at the interval.
O’Mahony’s rocked the visitors scoring a goal and two points in the opening 5 minutes of the second half to narrow the gap to just one point. It took a fine point from Gareth Reilly to steady Trim nerves. A goal and a point from Tadgh Clavin and another point from Ethan O’Hara gave Trim a 7 point cushion with just 10 minutes remaining. However a goal and a point from Navan narrowed the gap to just three points but any Navan thoughts of grabbing a late equalising score were dashed when Sean O’Sullivan finished calmly to the net to leave the final score Trim 4-09 , Navan O’Mahonys 2-09.
