LMFM Minor Football Tournament - Group B Rd 2

Trim took on Clann na nGael in the second Group B game of the minor football tournament at St. Loman’s Park on Sunday morning looking for a win after their opening round loss to Na Fianna two weeks ago.

The visitors opened the scoring with a point from a 45 in the second minute which was cancelled out by a Jamie Tomney score from play just a minute later. In the ninth minute the opening goal of the game was scored by Clan na nGael from close range after Trim had failed to clear their lines after a goal mouth scramble. A Lee Kearney pointed free and a goal from Conor O’Reilly had the home side ahead after 11 minutes. Points from Oisin Hughes and Alex Cole were responded to by Clann na nGael with 2 points from play of their own. However it was a fine Alex Cole goal which put 4 points between the teams at the interval –

Half Time Trim 2-04, Clann na nGael 1-03.

Trim made the worst possible start to the second half when Clann na nGael won possession from the throw in and ran through the centre of the Trim defence to goal after just 15 seconds. Trim responded well with points from Lee Kearney and James Murray and a great goal from Leon Harris who fired the ball to the top left hand corner of the net from just inside the penalty area. The gap was controversially narrowed to just three points in the 12 minute of the second half when a Clann na nGael shot which had crashed off the cross bar was adjudged by the referee to have crossed the line.

A second Clann na nGael 45 of the match narrowed the gap to two points and a 23rd minute goal put them a point ahead.
Trim responded immediately with a goal of their own courtesy of a smart close range finish from Lee Kearney and a Daire Dixon free looked like it might be enough to secure the points for the Trim men but the visitors finished strongly and two injury time points left the sides level at the full time whistle.

Trim: John McMoreland, Cillian Diamond, Fionn Ennis, Sam O’Connor, Adam Genockey, Conor Heffernan, Charlie Meehan, Oisin Hughes, Leon Harris, James Murray, Conor O’Reilly, Noah Kane, Jamie Tomney, Alex Cole, Lee Kearney, Dylan Creevey, Dylan McGuinness, Daire Dixon
