On Saturday afternoon Trim took on Oldcastle at St. Loman’s Park in Division 2 of the U19 championship in what was a must win game for the home side following their opening round defeat to Walterstown.
Trim played with the aid of the wind in the first half but found it difficult to put distance between themselves and their opponents who had a number of dangerous players in their forward lines. After exchanging frees in the opening minutes Oldcastle moved into a two-point lead after 10 minutes. Three Trim points from play, shared between Aaron and Jesse O’Rourke moved Trim back into a short-lived lead as Oldcastle responded with three consecutive points of their own. Jesse O’Rourke narrowed the Oldcastle lead to a point with a fine score in the 23rd minutes before an inspirational score from Padraig Walsh, who ran the length of the field before fisting over the bar, drew Trim level. In the final minute of the half another Jesse O’Rourke free gave Trim a 0-06 to 0-07 half-time lead.

Tadgh Carty put Trim back into the lead shortly after Oldcastle had equalised in the second minute of the half.
Minutes later Trim took control of the game when Eoghan Ryan finished to the net after a flowing Trim move.  Points from Jesse O’Rourke and Kyle Ennis cancelled out a pair of Oldcastle scores to keep Trims lead at 4 points. Oldcastle were reduced to 14 men when they received a black card for hauling down Kyle Ennis when bearing down on goal. The following free was converted by Jesse O’Rourke and two Trim goals in as many minutes by Caoimhin O’Neill and Tadgh Carty ended the game as a contest. Daniel Fox kicked the final point of the afternoon leaving the final score Trim 3-12 Oldcastle 0-09.

Trim’s final fixture of the group stages will take place in Trim at 6 o’clock on Saturday week (Nov 9th) where a victory over local rivals Dunderry would secure a place in the semi-finals.
