Trim began their U21 Championship with a stylish team performance, under ideal conditions, in Athboy.

The opening half was a close enough affair with the hosts matching their visiting opponents in many aspects of the overall play. While CNaG had the opening score, Trim were soon in the ascendency with three unanswered points from Kyle Ennis (2), and Joey Cole. This trend continued with further scores from Cormac Slattery and Daragh Heffernan. However, in between those scores Clann had raised the first green flag of the game and edged in front with two further points.

Alan Costello’s effort reduced the margin to a single point, in the nineteenth minute, and Trim finished out the half with further scores from Kyle Ennis (2), George Douglas and Daragh Heffernan.

Half Time: Trim 0-10; Clann Na nGael 1-5

Apart from the overall high quality team performance, a feature of this game was the scoring accuracy of Kyle Ennis and the return to the hurling ranks of Meath Senior footballer Ciaran Caulfield.

Trim had the opening three scores on the resumption through Kyle Ennis, Daniel Murray, and George Douglas. The hosts did match those scores but a superb individual effort in the fifteenth minute from Ciaran Caulfield raised the first Trim green flag. A quick thinking free by Joey Cole left Kyle Ennis in the clear to fire over soon afterwards and, in general, Trim had taken control of affairs and would do so until referee Gus Martyn’s final whistle.

Kyle Ennis added a further four points (2f), and another from Daniel Murray before Josh Harris raised another green flag from the narrowest of angles. By the time George Douglas and Joey Cole saw out the scoring for the visitors, Trim were well on top and march on to a second round clash with Ratoath on 1st November, a match that has taken on a certain significance due to recent affairs.
