A game of two halves was never more aptly used to describe a game as to this encounter. Trim’s third team travelled to Stamullen on Saturday afternoon for a Semi-final fixture with group topping St. Pats.

Sean Foley would start the scoring in the opening minute with a pointed free followed swiftly by a Derek Donohoe point from play. Derek unfortunately had to retire himself after this point due to an ongoing injury making way for Andy O’Brien.

The opening quarter saw Trim dominate with points from Robbie Kenny, Ciaran Giblin, Ciaran Joyce and Nigel Duignan, things starting to look a bit one sided.

St Pats scored their only point of the half in the 20th minute after a number of shots dropped short or wide.

Robbie Kenny was quick to answer with a point and Sean Foley rounded off the half with a smartly take goal after shimmying by the goalie in the 27th minute.

Half time: Trim 1-09 : 0-01 St Patrick’s

The second half was a different watching experience for the Trim supporters, and undoubtedly a sharp turn for the players. What seemed like a slight breeze at times would be questioned on the Beaufort scale with Trim now playing into it.

St Pats came out strong and started working back the deficit from the go; scoring 1-3 unanswered before Robbie Kenny scored Trim’s only point of this half.

The final 10 minutes saw St Pats claw back 4 more points leaving Trim with a 2 point victory at full time.

Frankie Murphy’s team will have a lot of positives to take away from this encounter; David Foley was highly impressive at full back as Joe O’Donohue directed affairs from no.6 position.

The team play was entertaining to watch in the first half and although gritty in the second, they stuck to the task and have a Championship Final to look forward to.
