Full Time - Trim 1-10 v 1-12 Navan O’Mahonys
Trim travelled to Bective GFC for the second instalment of the Premier Div 2 Championship against O'Mahony's. On a blustery day and with the wind to their back, Trim opened the first half well with early scores from Patrick Quigley and Mikey Cole. Those scores were matched by a seasoned O'Mahony's side who worked the ball well through the pristine Bective pitch and when forced, by some strong Trim defending, converted from distance. In an entertaining first half, with end to end football befitting of a championship match at any grade both teams continued to exchange scores, with Trim benefiting from excellent scores from Owen McGrath and the impressive Mikey Cole, which were matched by O'Mahony's. Trim had a fantastic opportunity late in the first half to eek out a lead when a flowing move from their full back line reached the O'Mahony box only for David Boyle to be denied a certain goal, following a smart save from the O'Mahony's keeper. Both teams continued to create chances and the first half ended Trim 0-06 to O'Mahony's 0-07
HT Trim 0-06 O’Mahonys 0-07
The second half started as the first ended, both teams creating chances, Conor McKeown was first off the mark with a fine point after some patient Trim play but this was followed by a goal for O'Mahony's following a mix up in the Trim defence. Trim bounced back well and began to dominate possession while creating and converting some fine scores from Owen McGrath and Patrick Quigley. Trim throughout the pitch were on top but not making their dominance count, putting a number of very scoreable chances wide. The experience of O'Mahony's was showing, they continued to score some fine points from distance as the Trim defence stood strong and eked out a 4 point lead. This was quickly reduced to the minimum when following a flowing move by Trim they had the ball in the back of the net, expertly taken by the ever impressive Mikey Cole. Trim pushed in the final minutes for the scores to take victory but failed to capitalise on good scoring opportunities and ultimately ended up on the wrong side of a 2 point margin - Trim 1-10 O'Mahony's 1-12. It was a really strong and spirited display from the men in Red, particularly in the second half, this is a young team who have a promising future ahead and will look to bounce back against Simonstown in round 3.
