Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship, Group A, Round 3
Full Time: Trim 5-15; Clann na nGael 1-19
Trim and Clann Na nGael ended the opening half, of their recent Championship, all square which must have given the latter some thoughts of a big upset. However, the break afforded more revitalization to the Trim outfit and they ran out convincing winners by the time referee Ciaran Flynn had sounded the final whistle.
Trim made the much brighter start and sharpshooter James Murray converted the first three points from frees in the opening five minutes. Darragh Heffernan added another before CnaG got off the mark a minute later. Trim full forward, Josh Harris, once again showed his improvisation skills when he flicked the ball to the Clann’s net in the tenth minute, and with a lead of 1-04 to 0-01 you would have thought that Trim would press on and have the game wrapped up by half time.
However, the Athboy outfit had other ideas and Joe Ennis made full use of his free taking opportunities which led the way for his team’s spirited revival. James Murray had added another three points to his tally but it was Clann Na nGael who finished the opening half on a high, with six unanswered points, to leave the sides all square at the half time whistle.
Half Time: Trim 1-7; Clann Na nGael 0-10
Amazingly, it was Clann Na nGael who provided the opening score in the second half, to lead for the first time, but that was the signal that Trim needed to spring into action and after both Mikey Cole and James Murray had found the back of their opponent’s net in quick succession this set the trend for the remainder of the game.
James Murray added another four points, supplemented by successful efforts from David Murtagh and Kyle Ennis, while Clann Na nGael were clinging on with scores which were hard to come by.
Mikey Cole, once again, found the back of the Clann’s net and completed his hat trick with another superb effort in the twenty eight minute. Wing back Dimmy Higgins also got in on the scoring act and, appropriately, James Murray saw out the Trim scoring a minute into injury time.
Clann Na nGael had one final effort to put a more respective look on the scoreline and Joe Ennis struck a very late free to the Trim net to complete the scoring.
Congratulations to Trim’s Daniel Murray on his Senior Championship debut.
