Trim produced a gritty performance in overcoming Dunderry on a cool and overcast Friday evening at St Loman’s Park.

It was a welcome change of fortune for, once again, a depleted squad and a first win since their opening League success back in mid-April.

A feature of the opening half was the superb fielding of Neil Heffernan and the accurate free taking of Daniel Murray. At the end of the first quarter the home side led by 1-4 to 0-3 thanks to a brace of scores from the aforementioned Neil Heffernan, a goal and pointed free from Daniel Murray, and another point from George Douglas. Daniel Murray added another three pointed frees before the break and a Cormac Slattery effort was also on target. The visitors were finding it difficult to match the pace and teamwork of the home side but managed to grind out a number of scores to leave the half time score;

Half Time Trim 1-8; Dunderry 0-5.

The second half opened in similar fashion and points were equally traded until Dunderry hit something of a purple patch and added a goal and point without reply, to leave just two points between the sides.
That resurgence was short lived, however, as Trim’s Neil Heffernan finished to the Dunderry net from a Daniel Murray assist. Apart from a single Dunderry point, the final quarter belonged to the home side and they finished with five unanswered scores from Daniel Murray (3), George Douglas, and Conor McKeown. There were plenty of tired and aching bodies when referee Bernard Heaney sounded the final whistle.

Final Score: Trim 2-16; Dunderry 1-10
