Trim travelled to Kilcloon for this round of the Intermediate League in a game which was, effectively, between their second string and the home side’s firsts. In contrast to Trim, who were very much depleted by a combination of absent Leaving Cert students and injuries, Blackhall were able to field a number of their County players, both past and present.
The home side had a significant wind advantage in the opening half and took most of their scoring chances with relative ease while Trim were living on scraps. Nevertheless, it was a fortuitous late goal coupled with Trim’s wide tally of seven, that saw the home side comfortably lead at the break.
The visitors suffered another blow when the lively Josh Ayton was forced to the sidelines with a serious eye injury and he took no further part in the proceedings.
Half Time: Blackhall Gaels 1-8; Trim 0-4
Trim began the second half with much more conviction and registered the opening scores to narrow the gap significantly. However, the swirling wind did not give them the extra advantage that was anticipated and they registered another eight wides, Gaels had two, to add to their frustrations.
In the end, Gaels ran out fairly comfortable winners but Trim will look to some sterling performances from a number of their Senior panellists who will be turning out again this evening in the Senior grade.
