LMES Ltd Senior Hurling League, Div 1, Round 3
Final Score: Trim 0-19; Killyon 1-14
Trim continued their winning ways with a narrow victory over a spirited Killyon selection, on a sunny evening at St Loman’s Park. Indeed, those in attendance were treated to an evenly contested encounter which hung in the balance until the final ten minutes when the home side outscored the visitors by 0-4 to 0-2.
Trim started brightly with Mark Molloy registering the first score in the third minute and straight from the puck out Conor Mc Keown doubled their advantage. They extended their lead by 0-4 to 0-1 by the seventh minute and this may have been the sign for the home side to ease off on the throttle.
A couple of scores, following some sloppy Trim play, kept the visitors within touching distance but while points were traded for the remainder of the half, the home side benefitting from the accuracy of Joey Cole from dead ball situations, Killyon recorded three unanswered points towards the latter stages to shade it by the narrowest margin when the half time whistle sounded.
Half Time: Trim 0-9; Killyon 0-10
Matters were level early on the resumption following a Josh Harris effort but the home side were rocked in the sixth minute when Killyon’s Brendan Quinn raised the green flag for the visitors, This was probably what Trim needed and they kicked on with four unanswered points through James Andrews, George Douglas, and a brace from Joey Cole’s accurate free taking.
Further scores were traded as the clock ticked on with neither side able to stamp their overall authority. Trim had maintained the minimum advantage as the sixty minutes had elapsed and were awarded a late free, which Joey Cole, once more, converted to complete the scoring.
A late shoulder injury sustained by Trim’s Padraic Walsh was the only blemish on an otherwise enjoyable contest. Hopefully it was not as serious as it looked and he will have a speedy recovery.
