🔴 Peil na mBan Div 3 v Moylagh⚪️
Our Div 3 Peil na mBan team made the 40 min journey out to Moylagh on Sunday last to reignite their fire for the league. After a bye round meant there was no competitive football for this team for almost a month, the players were more than ready to take to the field.
The day itself could not have been more perfect, the sun was out and the temperature was on the cool side which made for great conditions throughout.
Hats off to the pitch crew in Moylagh, it was in great condition, which after the weather over the last number of months was a welcome sight.
The game started well for the visitors with a very quick point from the throw from Sarah Caulfield followed quickly by a goal from, the increasingly reliable Rachel Hannon, who tapped the ball into the back of the Moylagh net. Another point from Sarah added confidence to the Átha Troim side.
Play continued to remain at that end of the field with the 14 a side home team being pressured continuously from Átha Troims attacking play throughout the first half.
Moylagh often worked the ball well up the field but Átha Troims dominant defence turned over the ball numerous times with some excellent defending and interceptions from Cliodhna Vaughan and Emer Ferry. Despite this pressure, Moylagh put 2 very well worked points over the bar from play and a 3rd from a free.
Some fantastic defending and movement off the ball throughout the field gave opportunities for points from Katie Newman, Rachel, Anna Foley, Sinead Murphy, Anna Bolger and 3 from Aoife Mc Donnell respectively. Átha Troim continued to dominate the play for all of the remaining first half, making it to the half time whistle 9 points ahead
HT Trim 2:09 Moylagh 0:03
The second half started in a similar vein to the first with the visitors taking control from the off. The possession did make its way to the other end of the pitch. There was pressure put on the Átha Troim defence however, after a few unsuccessful attempts to score Átha Troim were able to take control again and add another goal and point, from Katie Newman, and 2 further points from Rachel and Aoife, to the final tally. Moylagh rallied a number of times and continued to put pressure on Trim throughout the second half.
This was a much needed win for the Átha Troim side who will take the confidence from the game into their last 2 rounds of the league.
Next up is a home game against Clann na Gael on Friday 10th May @ 7:30pm.
