Trim acquitted themselves well against a strong Skryne side in round 3 of Premier Division 5 in a blustery Fr McManus Park on Sunday 7th April. In the end some poor shooting by Trim (with 14 wides) cost them dearly as they lost out on a 1-13 to 2-4 scoreline. Match Report Link
Trim played with whatever advantage the swirling wind gave them and were slow off the mark scoring their first point in the 6th minute from a great Sean Foley free. Skryne had already registered two points at this time from the boot of Andrew Canavan. They added another a minute later to restore their two point lead.
It wasn’t until the 10th minute that Trim showed the football they are capable of when a sweeping, fast moving play from the backs saw Neily Heffernan round his marker and hit the back of the net for a great goal. Two minutes later he repeated the feat after he collected a rebound off the crossbar and left the goalie with no chance.
Skryne responded well with two well taken points from Lenehan and Cassidy to which Sean Foley replied with an excellent point from a free from some distance and near the sideline but Skryne replied decisively with a goal a few minutes later.
Disaster struck then when the sturdy Shane Downes, who was having a great game in defence, had to limp off with an injury and had to be replaced by the evergreen Joe Donoghue. Downes loss upset the defence and they were under pressure for the remainder of the half but managed to keep Skryne to three points (from Cassidy (2) and Quinn ). Trim failed to score in the last fifteen minutes of the half despite having a number of scoring chances including a goal chance in the 22nd minute.
Half time score Skryne 1-8 Trim 2-2
While Skryne opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a well taken point from Donohoe Trim dominated possession for the next 20 minutes. However they failed to convert their possession into the required scores to put Skryne under real pressure. They hit wides in the 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 12th minutes from scoreable positions before Sean Foley pointed from a free in 14th and from play in the 17th minute after a great Evan Collins pass.
Shortly after this Trim failed to avail of a golden opportunity for a goal when a great move ended up with a narrow wide.
Trim then had a narrow escape in the 20th minute thanks to a brilliant save by Eoin O’Reilly but that was an omen of things to come. For the last ten minutes it was all one way traffic as Skryne added four points without reply to run out 1-13 to 2-4 winners.
